About
Hi, my name is Josh Kastorf and I am a freelance videographer, video editor, and photographer based in Boston, MA. Feel free to contact me if you have an event or performance you would like documented, or any type of video project with which you need help. I also have experience with digital effects, screenwriting, directing, production design, and puppet design.
I also work as an administrative assistant at MIT. I’ve worked with several different groups at MIT on video projects, which you can see here. I recently worked with students from the MIT Assistive Technology group to create a video that helped them win the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s prestigious Da Vinci Award.
I have been shooting and editing video since I was in middle school. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Film and Video Production from the University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television (now called the School of Cinematic Arts.) While I was there I worked on about 30 student film and video projects. I had internships at Bedford Falls Productions and MADtv. After school I worked as a production assistant on television shows such as Win Ben Stein’s Money and films such as All The Rage.
I also worked as an audio describer for the Media Access Group at WGBH. I later helped to train the audio describers at Captionmax.
For several years I was an organizer of Firefly, a participatory arts festival, and served on the Board of Directors of the Firefly Arts Collective. I wrote and directed a low-budget experimental fantasy film called Crypto-Candida, which premiered at Firefly.
I also wrote and directed a short fantasy film called Drawn From Life which began as a project for an advanced video class I took through MIT’s Visual Arts Program (now called the Program in Arts, Culture, and Technology.) Also in that class I collaborated with other students on a film called Mario v. Wario which won and award from MIT’s Comparative Media Studies department.
I am now working toward a Master’s of Professional Studies in Digital Media at Northeastern University.
In addition to event videography, I have produced music videos for musicians such as Vinyl Blight and Small Houses. I took promotional still photos for the artists at Vermin Street Records, one of which was published in Dig Boston.
I am currently working on projects with the Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project and Arlington Enrichment Collaborative.
